Frequently Asked Questions

Are all staff trained in CPR and First Aid?

All Bright Horizons staff are trained regularly in CPR, even if not required by the state. First Aid is taught as required by state licensing agency/regulations so that you can feel confident that your child is safe and receiving the best care possible at our center.

What is Bright Horizons' process on checking the background of their employees?

Bright Horizons conducts a comprehensive background check on all prospective employees and frequent visitors. The background check consists of a county criminal record check for the past seven years performed in all counties that a person has lived, worked or attended school. In addition to the county criminal search , a sex offender search, OFAC search and a social security verification trace are also conducted. For all location employees, program licensing background checks required by the state are also performed.

Will my children spend the day together or be separated while in back-up care?
Because each day at the back-up program is different, groups are determined daily. Ratios, group sizes, staffing patterns and licensing requirements all dictate how children are grouped on a given day. On a low usage day, it is very likely that your children will be in the same group because the group size is small. On a high usage day, when the group size is larger, this may not be possible. Request to keep your children together when making your reservation so faculty can keep your wishes in mind when deciding on groups. Although there is no guarantee, we will do our best to accommodate your request. If they do end up in different groups, the children will be given plenty of opportunities to visit and interact with each other throughout the day.
Will you make sure my child does his homework?
We will set aside a quiet place and a time to encourage children to work on homework. This is often after lunch during quiet time. A faculty member will be available for guidance and questions. Since children come from many different schools and grades, we may not know everything about the particular subject or project. We can help your child resource the reference books and perhaps a child in the group who can lend a hand. If the homework is intense and the child needs a lot of dedicated time from one caregiver, we may suggest the assignment be completed at home.
Can I bring my mildly ill child?
The health and safety of each child is of paramount importance to Bright Horizons. In consideration of other families, we do not permit sick children to use the center. Children with a temperature, respiratory infection/sever cold, vomiting, diarrhea or other contagious diseases may not use the center.
What if my child gets sick while in back-up care?
We will contact you if your child becomes ill and will keep your child comfortable in a quiet area until you can arrive to take your child home. Children may occasionally seem ill without any clear cause. Please do not bring your child to a Bright Horizons center if your child seems “under the weather.”
I need to cancel my reservation. Is there a cancellation policy?

If you have a confirmed reservation and your plans for care change, please cancel your reservation promptly. Your cancellation will assist us in making every effort to accommodate other families’ requests. Reservations must be cancelled no later than 5:00 p.m. on the business day prior to the reserved day of care. No-shows and late cancellations may be counted as a use for the purposes of utilization and the collection of co-payments.

Please check with your Human Resources department for specific information regarding your company's late cancellation policy regarding use counts and co-payments.
